Radioautographic study of aortic plaque formation.
نویسنده
چکیده
Radioautographic evidence using CaCl2 is presented to demonstrate that the aorta has an inherent ability to bind calcium ion regardless of age, sex or species. The binding occurs primarily in the intima and is not homogeneously distributed. Experiments with boiled aorta suggest that the primary substance responsible is collagen. The binding of calcium by the aorta has a marked effect upon the stability of emulsions. A theory of arterial plaque formation is presented.

Evaluation the effect of Boron on histopathological changes of atherosclerotic plaque in aortic arch and lipid profiles in New Zealand hyperlipidemic male rabbits
Background and Objectives: Cardiovascular diseases are the most important cause of death in the world. Atherosclerosis, as a common form of cardiovascular disease, tends to involve specific areas of the circulatory system. Boron has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties with potential beneficial effects. In this study, we investigated the effect of Boron on histopathological changes of a...

Background and Aim: Despite previously shown relationship between the aortic atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease, the relationship between aortic distensibility and the presence, extent and composition of thoracic aortic plaques (TAP) is not widely assessed. We evaluated the relationship between aortic distensibility and the presence, extent and composition of TAP in current research. ...
متن کاملRadioautographic Studies of Plaque-forming Cells
A method has been described for obtaining radioautographs of plaque-forming cells. The method permits radioautographic analyses of small numbers of plaque-forming cells amidst large populations of non-plaque-forming cells. Spleen cells that were pulse-labeled with tritiated thymidine could be categorized readily as labeled or not labeled. Using this method it was found that (a) at least 55% of ...
متن کاملRole of the CX3C chemokine receptor CX3CR1 in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis after aortic transplantation
BACKGROUND The CX3C chemokine receptor CX3CR1 is expressed on monocytes as well as tissue resident cells, such as smooth muscle cells (SMCs). Its role in atherosclerotic tissue remodeling of the aorta after transplantation has not been investigated. METHODS We here have orthotopically transplanted infrarenal Cx3cr1-/-Apoe-/- and Cx3cr1+/+Apoe-/- aortic segments into Apoe-/-mice, as well as Ap...
متن کاملEffect of MMP-2 deficiency on atherosclerotic lesion formation in apoE-deficient mice.
OBJECTIVE Although it has been reported that matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 is a major proteinase in atherosclerotic plaque lesions, there is no direct evidence of the role of MMP-2 in atherosclerotic lesion formation. In the present study we determined the role of MMP-2 in atherosclerosis plaque development using apolipoprotein E-deficient (apoE(-/-)) mice. METHODS AND RESULTS To generate ...
